A partir de Janeiro, a comunidade de entretenimento e os fãs de cinema de todo o mundo voltam sua atenção para a maior premiação do cinema: o Oscar. Todos os anos, a cerimônia premia as melhores produções cinematográficas americanas e mundiais e conta com a presença dos principais nomes da indústria do cinema. As expectativas se iniciam com o anúncio dos indicados e se estende até o dia da premiação, quando os vencedores são anunciados em uma cerimônia glamourosa nos Estados Unidos. Em 2023, o anúncio das indicações ocorreu no dia 24 de janeiro e a premiação acontecerá no dia 12 de março, marcando o 95º Oscar transmitido ao vivo.
A lista de indicações aos prêmios é extensa, passando por melhor filme, melhor direção, melhores efeitos visuais, melhor figurino e melhor filme internacional etc. Em 2022, cerca de 15,36 milhões de pessoas assistiram à transmissão, número que foi maior que do que em 2021, que registrou 9,8 milhões de espectadores, mas que ainda não foi igual a 2020, com 23,6 milhões de pessoas assistindo nos EUA.
Segundo o jornal Correio Braziliense, Oscar celebra a diversidade após protesto e pandemia sacudirem Hollywood. Segundo o Portal de notícias G1, “Oscar vai exigir mais diversidade em indicados a melhor filme a partir de 2024”. Em 2021, “atores negros como favoritos em várias categorias, mulheres e cineastas de origem asiática na disputa pelo prêmio de direção: este ano o Oscar bateu o recorde de diversidade” (Correio Braziliense).
Além disso, segundo o jornal Correio de Minas, a Academia de Hollywood tentar transformar a história das premiações, após ser alvo, nos últimos anos, de uma série de críticas pela falta de representatividade de negros, mulheres e minorias. Para o jornal, futuramente, o Oscar de 2021 será lembrado como sendo o ‘Oscar da mudança’.
Nesse sentido, o objetivo geral do trabalho consiste em analisar as características dos ganhadores do Oscar e como as peculiaridades e atributos dessas pessoas interferem na possibilidade de conquistarem uma estatueta ou não.
H1: Héteros são mais premiados que as demais orientações sexuais;
H2: americanos ganham mais prêmios que não-americanos;
H3: minorias étnicas ganharam mais oscares;
H4: pessoas mais novas são menos premiadas;
A base de dados contém informações desde o ano de 1927 até 2022 a respeito de 5 categorias premiadas, país de origem premiados, nome dos premiados, idade quando receberam o premio, orientação sexual, etnia, religão, data de nascimento, ano do premio e nome dos filmes.

A partir da tabela, é possível observar que mais de 90% das pessoas premiadas nas categorias “Best Actor”, “Best Actress”, “Best Director”, “Best Supporting Actor” e “Best Supporting Actress” são heteronormativas.
A segunda hipotese defende que no geral, americanos são mais reconhecidos pela academia e são mais premiados que extrangeiros.

Embora protestos por maior diversidade de representação nas premiações, percebe-se ainda que a maioria dos vencedores são americanos, seguido da Inglaterra. No entanto, a variação de porcentagem entre os países é significativamente alta.
Na terceira hipótese, estuda-se a presença de diferentes etnias no Oscar.

Pode-se observar que em geral, as premiações são dadas a pessoas entre 40 e 60 anos. Nas categorias “Best Actress” e “Best Suporting Actress” a coluna de idade é menor em comparação com as categorias de “Best Actor” e “Best Supporting Actor”, ilustrando que as mulheres costumam ser premiadas mais jovens que os homens. Além disso, pode-se observar que 4 das 5 categorias possuem valores discrepantes, indicando diferenças na distribuição de dados
