About

Below you will find a (hopefully) ever-expanding list of links with synopses to write-ups of work I’ve done in the Analytics Engineering (or Data Analytics, or Data Engineering, or…) space. At least at the moment, these will fall into two broad categories - write-ups of my ongoing E-Sports Data Engineering and Analytics project, and the write-ups and potentially presentations created as part of interview technical tasks, if they are interesting enough to be shared. Some of these are quite dry and effectively documentation, and others are casual, conversational, and closer to blog-post style explorations of the task or idea.

If you are looking for a starting point, I would recommend:

  1. EDA - Bond Yields for exploratory data analytics and my thought processes while exploring complex material that I have no background knowledge of
  2. WoWS - Live Scraping Per-Game Player Performance for a more technical look at how I have approach ETL, data wrangling, and the marriage of awkward, messy data into something analytically useful
  3. WoWS - Dimensional Modelling for admissions that I don’t know everything, and a bit of an exploration of applying dimensional modelling to my existing project

Technical Interview Tasks

  1. EDA - Bond Yields - As part of an interview process for the International Capital Markets Association, I was asked to analyse 50 years of bond yield data. I have no particular background in or knowledge of financial services, so this required a very rapid crash course in bond markets, followed by data wrangling, EDA, and presentation. I was offered this

Personal Projects

  1. WoWS - ETL Pipeline - Conversationally written documentation of the ‘main’ ETL process powering this project, with web scraping, ingestion from a vendor API, converting awkwardly nested JSON objects into relational data models, and feeding them in to MySQL
  2. WoWS - Live Scraping Per-Game Player Performance - Walking through how I transform data of questionable value into something analytically useful, generating otherwise unavailable per-game player performance statistics, and matching that data to my existing data model despite a total lack of key
  3. WoWS - SQL Overview - Quite dry documentation of the MySQL model created for this project. Recommendable only if you want to see a slightly out-of-date ERD and understand how all the pieces fit together
  4. WoWS - Dimensional Modelling - A look at applying dimensional modelling to this project, rather than the current rather ‘default’ transactional approach

Stakeholder Testimonials

  1. WoWS Project Stakeholder Testimonial - One of the ‘stakeholders’ for my ongoing e-sports-ish project and die-hard spreadsheet enthusiast wrote a ‘review’ of me.
