Figures

Draft of figures for the 1st paper.

Panel 1: environmental framework

CTD, chlorophyll & nutrients data

Updated chla-phaeo-ratio

CHEMTAX

chemotaxonomic analysis of phytoplankton groups that compose total chlorophyll a. to be updated

SEM

Cell counts (total and by size-group). Plus symbol in (a) represents DCM samples. Triangle in (b) represents DCM samples. Grey lines represent standard deviation (n=2).

Main species

Main diatom species in the GoA, including pennate and centric types, from both small and large size-fractions.

Heatmap

Species data, log-transformed for clear visualization. Data includes all species (w.o cutoff). Colors represent clusters as appear on NMDS.

NMDS

NMDS based on cell concentration. Data is not log transformed. Double cutoff applied: 1% relative abundance & 10% occurence. Clustering based on 65% similarity (bray-curtis)

Spore dynamics

Spores of Chaetoceros group were detected in several time points around mixing and bloom periods.SEM and LM images (a is a vegetative chain for comparison with spores morphologies. b-e spore in SEM (b,c in chain and as single cell, respectively) and LM (d,e))

Relative abundance from total Chaetoceros cells (vegetative and spore phases). Upper panel shows the concentration of total chaetoceros at each time point where spores were detected. Numbers in parenthesis represent the proportion (%) of chaetoceros spores from total diatom concentration at each time point.

Nutrient enrichment

Detecting nutrient limitation by the marker pigment fucoxanthin (HPLC). Values represent rate of change in fucoxanthin area (corrected to volume) over 48 h. incubations represent bloom (a) and post-bloom (b) communities. to be updated

Supplementary figures

Clusters based on 65% similarity (Bray-Curtis)

Panel 2: SEM data

Cell counts, size-fraction, NMDS, Heatmap

Diatoms, euks, cyano

1st option: Concentration (cell_ml)

2nd option: log10 concentration

Relative abundance of diatoms from total euks
