S-SOMAS Report
Hello MASDER team this are the graphs that I need some input on.
Keep in mind:
- Titles and labels are easily changed towards the end, if there are any that are suggested can we write them down and then i can change them
- The items I need help with are graph styles (types of graphs), colors, labels (percents or bar label locations), and how easy a graph is to read
- I also need help making sure the items displayed are correct such as class levels, gender, categorical and ordinal variables
- this is using the pilot 3 data and any changes we have made to the survey will automatically be implemented in the graphs such as gender

Demographics
Gender
Is there a better way we would like to display this. Keep in mind that this has changed in future pilots to add non binary. Is there any specific order we want to keep them in. Do we like the inlayed bars. Is there anything we can add.
Race
What is your race or origin?
This graph is in the works
Native Language
Select the language(s) in which you are fluent. Select all that apply.
Is there a specific order we want to put these in. Do we like the removal of the grid. is it better to have the legend on the side or bottom. In this graph we are still getting the odd sections out of it.
Age
Is the dodge postion prefered. do we like to have the legend on the bottom. do we like the grid in the background. we also truncated the ages past 30 into the 30+ bar. We are working on making it automatic based on a percentage of the people past a certain age (if majority are around 30-40 then a bar for 60+ might be generated).
Is this prefered than the last one. If we want this one do we like the space between the bars. do we like the bars side by side.
similar as above expect do we like the bars inlayed.
Class level
Which of the following best classifies you as a student?
Do we like theh order of this one. Inlayed bars?
Have you successfully taken a statistics class before?
Do we like the dashed lines in this one? legend on the bottom. Ideas for labeling the bars is below.
Do we like the labeling of the bars here. We were thinking that the highest bar would be put on top and the lowest bar would be in the middle of the bars. What if the text was outlined in black but had color. Dashed line? legend on the bottom?
Average GPA
Majors
Pick the field that best describes your major or intended major
Michael and I worked on sorting these out. Is there a specific way we want these listed. Do we want to highlight certain aspects.
Ideas for this graph. Once the majors are grouped together, this graph should look better.
Minors
If you have a minor, pick the field that best describes your minor.
Lots of None responses, do we want to keep this in the data. do we want to group them. ideas are welcome for this one.
Same comments as the last one
Why take
Which of the following best describes why you are taking this class? Select all that apply.
This graph is a select all. What is the information we are trying to collect from it. This graph only shows the how many times an option was selected. this means that if they selected required by major and elective, and then the next person selects only required by major, then required by major gets 2 and elective gets 1. Do we like how we have the value on the top and percent on the bottom.
Constructs
Global
Ideas on the box plot. I really like how this one came out
Same as the one above except it has violin plots on it as well.
Simply larger violins. Do we like big or small. Do we want only violin plots.
Histogram for the averages for each group of construct. Ie, The average for cost for CSUMB is centered around 5 and is skewed left.
this is a histogram of the school / instructor and then the line is a density graph of the national. Ideas are welecomed for this one. Construct name is the label for the graph as well.
This is the standard way we plot likert graphs. Do we want to keep this.
Gutt
AcadSC
The modified likert plots. We found this was the better way to plot them. It lets you put the question as the title for the graph. Scaling is being worked but suggestions are welcome.
