Notes and Definitions

  • Points and Possessions: A player is considered to have played a point or possession if they are on the field when the point or possession ends.

  • Throwing and Receiving Errors: Turnovers are assigned to either the thrower, the receiver, or both. If a turnover is assigned to both, the thrower is given 1/2 a Throwing Error and the receiver is given 1/2 a Receiving Error.

  • Hucks: A Huck is a throw that gains at least 35 yards (from the location of the throw to the location of the first touch or contact with the ground).

  • Breakside Throws: A Breakside Throw is a throw during which the defense had set a flick or backhand force and the disc was thrown towards the breakside (towards the other side of the field when the disc is on the force sideline and towards the endzone when the disc is on the break sideline). For this purpose the breakside is considered to cover 90 of the 360 degrees around the thrower.

  • Offensive and Defensive Efficiency: Percent of offensive possessions that resulted in a goal and defensive possessions that resulted in a turnover.

  • Rates: Goal, Assist, Block, and Turnover Rates are the percent of possessions in which the player is credited with that stat.

  • Shares and Usage: Percent of team goals (Goal Share), assists (Assist Share), and throws and catches (Usage) by a player while they are on the field.

  • Offense-Defense Scale: Percent of points started and substitutions made by player while the team was on defense. A 0 indicates a pure offensive player while a 100 indicates a pure defensive player.

  • Handler-Cutter Scale: Percent of Total Yards that are Receiving Yards. A 0 indicates a pure handler while a 100 indicates a pure cutter.

  • Available Yards Gained %: Number of yards the team gained on all of their offensive possessions as a percent of the total number of yards that was available for them to gain.

  • Block % and Ratio: Block % is the percent of defensive possessions in which the team records a block or stall. Block Ratio is the ratio of Blocks + Stalls to Opponent Errors.

  • Person and Zone Def %: Percent of defensive possessions in which the team primarily played person defense or zone defense. If a defense is not set by the time the possession ends it is not counted as either person or zone.
