Who am I?

My name is Ian Carroll, I am 24 years old and a graduate student at the University of Indianapolis pursuing a M.S. in Data Analytics. I am originally from East Lansing, Michigan but have lived in Indianapolis for the past 5 years. My interests include golfing, playing video games, math, and hanging out with friends.

Academic Background

-East Lansing High School (2012-2016)

-B.S. in Actuarial Science with a Minor in Statistics, University of Indianapolis (2017-2021)

-M.S. in Data Analytics, University of Indianapolis (2021-2023)

Initially set my sights on Actuarial Science when I came into college. After 3 years and one certification exam, I realized becoming an Actuary was not for me. Wanted something where I could be creative and apply my skills to jobs outside of the insurance field. I am very happy with my decision to pursue a M.S. in Data Analytics. Moving forward my goals are to finish this program and give myself as many opportunities to find a job I will enjoy.

Professional Background

My professional background is very limited. This is because I played college golf here at UINDY. Our season was year round with a two month break in the summer and one month in the winter meaning I did not have time between school and athletics for a job. I picked up part time work during the breaks in season but was never able to get an internship because of golf. The jobs I did work were a Door Dash driver and Pro-Shop manager at a local golf course. My priority now is finishing my M.S. and from there pursuing professional golf. I want to make sure I have a good backup plan with this degree before I take that risk.

Expereince with R and Other Software

I have 4 years experience with R. I was first introduced to it in my sophomore year of undergrad. I had a class that dealt in R. I did not start using R-Studio until my junior year of undergrad where I had multiple classes use it. From there I took an R training course for my first semester of the MSDA program. This was mostly a review. 621 will be my first experience using R Markdown.
