Introduction to Me!

I am a graduate student in the Master of Science Business Analytics (MSBANA) program at the University of Cincinnati. Being in this program will allow me to increase my knowledge of data analytics, while expanding my exposure to data analytic tools. As a Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst for Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC), I enjoy analyzing and disseminating data related to electronic health records and other medical data. I am from Dayton, Ohio and I enjoy spending time with my family, watching sports, listening to music, going to the movies, etc. I am a “SyFy, Star Trek, Martial Arts, Marvel/DC, and Action-Genre” movie fan.

Academic Background

Professional Background

I currently work at CCHMC as a BI Analyst for the Chief Medical Information Officer. My current role entails:

  • analyzing medical data and clinical behavior in electronic health record (EHR) data
  • developing and managing data files, databases, scripts, queries, reports, and other systems used for data analytics
  • organizing and disseminating data using reports, tables, charts, spreadsheets, and other methods for research and analytic purposes
  • conducting EHR chart reviews to collect and troubleshoot data
  • preparing reports from data analytics for presentation and publication goals
  • working on various clinical decision support (CDS) and EHR projects

Although I have been with CCHMC since 2010, I have work experience in Information Technology (IT), specifically doing data analysis, project management, and IT support work.

Experience with R

My experience with R is mid-level and started while working on projects at CCHMC. CCHMC uses R for generating scripts and plotting various patient and clinical data. My increased exposure to data analytic projects and additional responsibilities have led to the need to maximize my learning of R. While enrolled in the Data Visualization course, R (along with SAS as the main programming language) was presented as a programming option to use for:

  • importing and manipulating data
  • generating scripts
  • plotting/graphing data

My overall take-away from the Data Wrangling course is to use the knowledge and learning to build a script that will generate growth charts for patients based on specified datasets.

Experience with Other Analytic Software

I have experience and/or exposure to the following analytic software:

  • Oracle
  • SQL
  • R
  • Python
  • SAS
  • Tableau
  • Microsoft Access
  • MicroStrategy
  • Power Bi (pending learning)

My experience and/or exposure to these tools are based on “learning on the job,” attending workshops (e.g., Tableau, Python), taking academic courses, etc.
