Introduction to Me!

Hi, my name is Mike Sharp and I am a fourth year student here at Lindner. I am currently studying Business Economics and minoring in Business Analytics. I am interested in learning how data analysis can be applied to economics, and am excited to learn more about R this semester! I grew up in West Chester, OH, and have been commuting to campus during my academic career.

Academic Background

Professional Background

I am hoping to obtain an internship next summer or over the spring that has to do with data analysis. So far I’ve worked at Aero Fulfillment Services as a picker, packer, and shipper. I’ve also worked at Chick-Fil-A as a front-house associate.

Experience with R

I took an Introduction to Econometrics class a couple sememsters ago. There was a brief summary of statistics at the start, and then the professor dove straight into linear regression modeling within R. I had never coded before so it was an extremely difficult wall to initially climb, but I got somewhat of a grasp of the material.

Experience with Other Software

I don’t have much experience with other software, but I am currently taking BANA 4137 where we are learning about Tableau. I never knew there was such a thing as emphasizing data visualization until taking this class, but after the first couple of weeks I already find it extremely interesting. I have really enjoyed learning about the history of what people used to visualize the data they gathered as well as how it has evolved over time.
