PPD = periodontal probing depth (which is a measurement in millimetres of how loose the gum is around a tooth - the bigger it is, the worse the gum disease). Generally this is taken at 6 points around each tooth.
PostPPD - is PPD just in the back teeth, which, in this study, was what we were concentrating on.
No. PPD 5mm = number of sites (PPD) that measured 5mm or more. This is to focus on the most severe areas and is a measure also of more severe gum disease.
CAL = clinical attachment level (which is a measure of the PPD and the amount that the gums have shrunk down the tooth), the bigger this is, the worse the gum disease. Measured also in mm. BOP = bleeding on probing. This is a measure of inflammation taken once we measure the PPD. This is also taken at 6 points around each tooth. Taken as ‘yes’ or ’no’.
FMBS = full mouth bleeding score. This is a %. i.e. the number of BOP sties that is a ‘yes’ divided by the total number of sites in the mouth (6 x the number of teeth present in the mouth), x 100.
FMPS = full mouth plaque score. Same as FMBS except for sites which showed plaque.

Participants are equally distributed into three types of treatment.
Smoking status was almost equally distributed, with a larger proportion of the sample being former smoker.
Most numerical data is highly skewed and their distribution is not normal.
Based on the boxplots, there seems to be differences by treatment in EQ5-VAS, Post PPD, Post No PPD>5, REC. FMBS and FMPS. No subtantial differences can be seen in these plots OIDP, EQ5 and CSOIDP.
There is statistical evidence for moderate to strong correlations between the variables at baseline, 3M, 6M and 12M after. The only exception was FMPS, with mostly weak correlations. The general pattern suggest the stronger correlation at 6M, either with baseline, 3M or 12M.
