Overview

In 2020, when COVID-19 pandemic began, with the restrictions imposed by Federal, State and Territory Governments to limit the spread of virus have had significant negative impacts on labour market across demographic groups and regions.

Two years later, there are now definitive signs of improvement. Australia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment was at 3.9% in April 2022, unchanged from a downwardly revised figure in March, amid a steady recovery in the economy from the pandemic, and matching market consensus.

This report aims to analysing the unemployment change from 2012 to 2022, for 8 State and Territory in Australia, and also look at the distribution among different age groups and genders by using three data visualisations produced in R Studio.
