Summary of TNA Validation Workshop

BRAC James P Grant School of Public Health (BRAC JPGSPH), BRAC University organized a virtual ‘Training Needs Assessment (TNA) Validation Workshop’ for “Designing and Implementation of Bangladesh Health Watch (BHW) Short Courses” on 29 May 2021. These skills development short courses, designed for health service providers, are part of a Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), funded project, awarded to the BHW, titled “Making Bangladesh’s Healthcare Systems More Responsive and Participatory”.

The objective of the virtual workshop was to receive experts’ constructive feedback on “Draft TNA Results and Designs of the Short Course” for finalizing the draft designs and course contents. As such, the feedback provided by expert participants were documented to incorporate in the TNA report.

Designing Short Course Contents:

  • Short Training Course contents would be practical rather than theoretical

  • Training should be brief, attractive and convincing to potential participants

  • Include preventive measures related contents in the module

  • Different social accountability as well as management tools to be included in modules

  • Involve DGHS, IEDRC in designing short training course contents, including their views

  • Include behavioral aspect of health providers in the contents

Potential Participants of Short Course:

  • Training participants will have to be diverse such as government, NGOs

  • Health managers such as UH&FPO at Upazila level, Civil Surgeon would be suitable for the training course

Delivery Mechanism of Courses:

  • Delivering courses in segments and some module could be staggered throughout the year where people learn by doing

  • Target some regions (10-20 Upazilas) to implement the short course

  • Residential training is appreciated

  • Pilot a short course in the field if pandemic allows

Follow Up after Training:

  • Follow up and refresher course after training to ensure implementation of training

  • Creating social media group to keep the participants engage and connected

About the BHW Short Courses
 
The short course initiatives are part of a project entitled **Making Bangladesh's Healthcare Systems More Responsive and Participatory** conducted by the Bangladesh Health Watch (BHW). One of three results of the project is: **Better understanding of duty-bearers on quality of care, accountability and equity**. The indicator of measuring this result is: Increased understanding and commitment of duty bearers to quality, participation and equity of health care, especially for the vulnerable (including women and girls) populations through Short Courses. To this end, [BRAC James P Grant School of Public 
Health](https://bracjpgsph.org/), BRAC University in collaboration with [Bangladesh Health Watch (BHW)](https://bangladeshhealthwatch.org/) has been  conducting short courses for public health professionals as follows: 

  - Responding to the Pandemic: voice, equity and governance (**Pandemic Pilot**)
  - Good Governance in the Health Sector (**Good Governance**)
  - Equity in Accessing Healthcare Services (**Health Equity**)
  - Voice and Participation of Stakeholders in Service Delivery (**Stakeholder Participation**)
