Neighborhood concentrated disadvantage index for the Sacramento Metropolitan Area, CA.
The index was constructed using the following variables from the U.S. Census (darker red means greater disadvantage):
Percent of households receiving public financial assistance; Percent of individuals living under the federal poverty line; Percent of the civilian labor force who are unemployed; Percent of female-headed households; Percent black; Percent of residents under 18 years old
Each Principal Component explains a percentage of the total variation in the dataset. That is to say: PC1 explains 54% of the total variance, which means that one-half of the information in the dataset (in this case, 6 variables) can be encapsulated by just that one Principal Component.
