The dygraphs in Panel 2 show same information as the hcharts in Panel 1. It is evident that the dygraphs provide more flexibility, by allowing for inclusion of reference lines and shaded areas to identify specific events and time periods.

Area plots like this one are effective visualization tool for examining how proportions change over time.

Further analyses would benefit from having data that differentiates between Netflix original content and Netflix content purchased from other sources.

Pie Chart Series of Number of Netflix Movies added each year from 2013 to 2021 by minimum age of intended audience.


In all pie charts, the numbers in parentheses are the number of movies added for that age group in that year.

A pie chart series is an alternative to an area plot that can be very useful where there is a relatively small number of years of data. The pie chart series provides more explicit information but would be in appropriate for a longer timespan.


Comparison of Line Plot and Area Plot for examining Revenue, Net Income, and Expenditures


These plots show the same information, but area plot more effectively shows total revenue as sum of expenditures (red shaded area) and net income (blue shaded area). By showing these values in an area plot, we can clearly see the proportion of revenue in each category and, see just how small the proportion of net income is.
