Introduction

For this project, I found open data on the amount of crashes involving cyclists in the city of Raleigh from 2015 and up to April 17 2022. After I found this data set which includes 454 cases of crashes involving cyclists, I opened it in tableau and created a map that shows the location and date of the crash, as well as the weather condition during the time of the crash. This data is shown in red transparent bubbles and if you zoom in on the map, you can see the trends of these crashes based on the location where they occurred.

Hypothesis

I predict that majority of the crashes involving cyclists will occur more frequently in the downtown area of Raleigh rather than in the outskirts of Raleigh. I expect there to be a trend of accidents in several areas, and that there will be multiple occurrences where there are accidents in the same area from different years.

Number of Crashes invloving cyclists in Raleigh by year

2015: 70

2016: 73

2017: 67

2018: 67

2019: 55

2020: 39

2021: 64

2022-: 19

Analysis and Conclusion

In further observation of this map, I can conclude that my hypothesis is correct. Although there are many points on the map outside of the downtown area of Raleigh, majority of the crashes have occurred in the downtown area. There is a trend of crashes that occur on Hillsborough Street, from 2015, 2022, and on Western Blvd from 2015-2019.
