Introduction
Today I will be comparing the twitters of Xavier University and University of Cincinnati, two schools that love to be competitive with each other. I have asked myself three questions with the data given and have used analytics like graphs and tables to retrieve some insight on these answers.
Question 1: How does the popularity of Xavier differ from UC throughout the day?
Here I used really only one term, created_at; which represents the time at which a tweet was sent out. Based on the visuals I have created here using ggplot. It seems like Xavier generally gets more interaction in the earlier hours, while UC gets more interaction in the later hours. I kept the time zone in UTC so you can differentiate between things like hour 6 and hour 18, as I did not know how ggplot or R would deal with timezoned data like EST.
Question 2: What Twitter page gets the most amount of favorites and retweets?
| Xavier Total Favorites | Xavier Total Retweets | Xavier Total Quote Retweet Count | Xavier Total Quote Favorites |
|---|---|---|---|
| 861 | 58 | 1582 | 7886 |
| UC Total Favorites | UC Total Retweets | UC Total Quote Retweet Count | UC Total Quote Favorite Count |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1111 | 157 | 957 | 12292 |
Here I used four terms. The amount of favorites, the amount of retweets, and the amount of quoted retweets and favorites. For competitive sake, I wanted to see what community is more active. This table displays the number of retweets and favorites each school has accumulated within the most recent 150 tweets. From the numbers alone, it is easy to say that UC generates more interaction, but when you take into account the followings of each twitter account, UC being at ~80k while Xavier is at ~20k, you start to look at these numbers a little differently. I would say that it is safe to say that the interaction between the 2 accounts is comparable, and in my opinion, Xavier’s might be a little more impressive considering the significantly smaller follower amount.
