Introduciton of the data

Wendy’s and Hardees are notorious for their active twitter accounts. With both accounts have sassy not afraid to swing first attitudes there is plenty of interesting things to find on eithers page. But how do they compare? I had a few questions I wanted to get the answers to. Below are those questions and what answers I found while searching.

Details of the dataset

All the data below is pulled off twitter using a twitter bot. While I was unable to dish out thousands and thousands of dollars to get a holistic view of both twitter accounts, I did get access to 200 instances each mentioning the twitter handles of both accounts.

Q1.)

What is their most retweeted post?

I was really interested in this because I wanted to know if the most re-tweeted post on each account would be that of a sassy post or that of some generic twitter ad highlighting the newest deal. To answer this question I went and pulled 200 results from each twitter handle and ordered the entire list in descending order. From there I sliced the data to only show the top re-tweeted post of the sample data I collected. This will display the most re-tweeted post including the handle of each business. Based on the text of each I can deduce if it is an ad or a original post.

It seems that this is an ad post possibly a sponsored one from @wendys.

Based on the the most re-tweeted posts from the data I collected it is hard to tell if either brand has their sassy posts or sponsored content re-tweeted more often.

What Words Have Been Most Frequently Said?

I was interested to see what words were most frequently used in tandem with the handles of each respective company. I thought it may be ale to give insight into what popular topics are discussed regarding each company. To do this I first picked out each individual word in the text column and then removed stop words such as “a, the,is, are, etc…” to only show words of interest. From their I counted the number of instances each word was mentioned. I saw there were quite a few stop words I missed so I manually filtered out “https, t.co,I’ve,em, and the name of the company”. I was left with a full list of words and the number of times they appeared in tweets. Check out the top 10 words of each below!

Wendys Most Frequent Words

Based off of the graphs above it seems that Wendys has quite a few words that are associated with march madness such as final, play, and score. A full list would show the names of a number of college playing in march madness. See the chart below to see all the words present

Hardees Most Frquent Words

Hardees on the other hand had quite the range of words. Their most common words related more toward different type of food they offer at their restaurant. It seems that their might be a correlation between their app and their burger. Not the answers I was hopping for but it was still interesting to learn about. How does the popularity of Hardees differ from Wendy’s throughout the day?

I wanted to know if their is increased twitter activity at a certain time of day with each company and to do this I decided to look at the number of times each companies handles were used during each hour of the day.

It seems that @wendys has quite a few more data points to process than that of @hardees. From the 200 mentions of @wendys I pulled all appeared during the span of three hours. This makes it difficult to tell if their is a certain our in the day that the @wendys handle is most often used. But, Hardees on the other hand has given us some more digestible data…
