For every pound of shrimp caught in North Carolina waters by shrimp trawls, four pounds of finfish and other marine life are caught, killed, and shoveled overboard. – The North Carolina Wildlife Federation
For today and next time
The state of North Carolina is being sued over its failure to manage marine fisheries in a sustainable way. The suit is brought by private citizens, including former members of the NC Marine Fisheries Commission, together with the Coastal Conservation Association of North Carolina.
We will choose sides and debate the issues in this case. Work in groups to divide up resources and prepare for opening statements and rebuttals. By the end of today’s meeting you will need to converge on the core arguments you will use in the debate. Post an outline of your main points to Sakai.
