systtime() I have become obssessed (with good reason) about my heart rate and bloodpressure. Pharmacies and 'drug stores' in Canada are usually equipped with heart rate monitoring machines so I am a frequent attendee. I even have a little smart card which records the last ten readings. I am also a data analyst and so what subject could be more attractive than data from my own heart. First off, here is a histogram of diastolic pressure:
hist(as.numeric(heart$dia), col = "blue", main = "Stephen's diastolic pressure",
xlab = "Diastolic")
Not too bad…Guideline is try to keep it below 80.
As a parent, did you ever feel that your blood pressure went up when 'the kids' were on summer holidays…well, mine certainly did. The plot below is a smoothed line. Each of the little black dots represents an observation (there are about 70 measurements)
library(ggplot2)
heart$date <- as.Date(heart$date, "%d/%m/%Y")
qplot(date, sys, data = heart) + geom_smooth(colour = "red", size = 2, main = "Stephen's Systolic Pressure")
This year I worked until April, then it was school holidays with attempts at various holidays. Blood pressure rose steadily until July, now, with children back at school and on a regular and controllable personal working schedule, pressure has gone down. Plus 30 mins in the gym every morning seems to do wonders for blood pressure and mood in general. The guideline is 120 so I have a fair bit of aerobic biking to do!
