Universe percentages

When using ACS data, percentages must be calculated using the ‘universe’ for that variable. For example, to calculate the percent of rural persons employed in manufacturing, the universe is the civilian employed population 16 years and over. Meanwhile to calculate the percent of rural persons with health insurance coverage, the universe is the civilian non-institutionalized population. The charts below calculate percentages using the correct universe for each ACS variable.

How to read chart names: pct_rural_pop_civilian_employed_16_years_over_estimate_agriculture_2019 gives the percentage of rural persons employed in agriculture out of the rural civilian employed population 16 years and over.
