About

This dashboard shows the citizen science data of Arthropods collected in Guilford County, North Carolina. Phylum Arthropods are animals with an exoskeleton, a segmented body, and paired jointed appendages.

Arthropods are crucial in maintaining the health of ecosystems. They are an important group of earth’s biodiversity and can be seen as indicators of environmental change.

With the advent of social media, it is now easier than ever for citizen scientists to catalog the Arthropods that they encounter in their communities.

Through various mobile applications such as iNaturalist, citizen science observations are aggregated in the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) database, a free and open access source for biological data along with those observations from scientists and professionals.
