(Page updated at 2021-12-09 18:19:26)
Data source: Immunet from Maryland Department of Health, as of December 3, 2021. For further data analysis, methods, and detailed note on data sources, please see the full note here.

NOTE: In this note,
1. “Weekly data” is not data for a calendar week. It refers to a seven-day period leading up to the date of latest update (e.g., last Thursday-Wednesday, if an update is on Thursday).
2. Age is age at the first vaccination.

1. Booster

1.1. What is the weekly pace of booster vaccination?

SUMMARY

  1. In the past 7 days, 4259 booster shots were provided: a change by -9.5%, compared to 4708 in the previous 7-days. A total of 41402 “booster” shots were given to date.
  2. In the last four weeks, the number of booster shots for 60+ has declined continuously, while the number for <60 has remained stable.
  3. Pharmacies are main source for booster shots. In the past 14 days, 8967 booster shots were provided: 86% of them were given at pharmacies and 4% were given at hospitals.

In this note, booster shots are:
- 3rd or higher order shot for those who received PFR/MOD vaccines for their first shot AND the interval is 120 days or longer from the previous shot.
- 2nd or higher order shot for those who received JSN vaccines for their first shot AND the interval is 60 days or longer from the previous shot.
See Annex 2 in the full note for how booster shots are defined.

1.2. Among people who should, who have got their booster?

SUMMARY

  1. Simply based on the age, type and date of the initial shot, a total of 40019 shots were given to people “who should get booster shots”, according to CDC’s guidelines. This is 33 % of the total 122170 people who should get booster to date.
  2. Booster rates vary by age, race, and brand/type of the first dose. Further breakdown by both manufacturer and race shows that booster rates are lower among Hispanic and Black eligible groups compared to other groups, even when they have received the same brand/type of the first dose.
  3. Booster rate also varies by zipcode. The pattern is largely similar to the geographic pattern of getting the initial vaccination.

2. Booster or not, what is the overall vaccination trend?

SUMMARY

  1. While booster shots have got attention recently, the number of people who get their initial doses (2 for PFR/MOD, 1 for JSN) has remained steady - though relatively low.

3. How about vaccination among children?

SUMMARY

Among 12-15:
1. It has remained lowest across all age groups in 12 or older (60% of the population received one or more doses).
2. Pharmacies have been the main source of vaccination, partially because massvax sites were closed soon after they became eligible.
3. The weekly number peaked immediately after the authorization but dropped sharply after about a month, when summer started.
4. Interestingly, when 12-15 became eligible, we saw a spill over effect to older age groups.

Among 5-11:
1. In the last 7 days, 12 children received their first dose. To date, a total of 4301 first dose vaccinations have been provided to children 5-11 years of age.
2. To date, 19.6% of the population received one or more doses.
2. In the last 7 days, the most common source was Pharmacies, vaccinating 51% of the young children. 43% were vaccinated at pediatric practices.

3.1. What age groups are coming for their first shot?

3.2. Among those under 16 years, where do they get vaccinated?

3.3. What are the current level and how has it changed, by age group?
