Método:
Debido a las grandes diferencias en el área total censada por sitio, se seleccionó una muestra de cada sitio, de tamaño estandar, para realizar los cálculos de diversidad funcional.
Se seleccionaron aleatoriamente combinaciones de transectos que sumaran un valor similar, ahora llamado “target_area”, permitiendo un margen de variación llamado “buffer”.
Se escogieron el target_area y buffer con el mejor desempeño según los siguientes parámetros:
Que permitieran el uso de la mayor área respecto al total muestreada regionalmente
Que permitieran el uso de la mayor cantidad de transectos respecto al total de transectos existentes
Que presentaran el menor índice de sobrerrepresentación de transectos. Cuyos valores altos refieren a casos donde los transectos escogidos, se ven representados de forma desigual, usando algunos muchas más veces que el resto
Que permitieran conservar la mayor cantidad de sitios y localidades
A partir de estos criterios, se usaron los valores de target_area ± buffer = 300 m2 ± 45 m2. Las funciones que estandarizan el área y calculan los indices funcionales, se describen a continuación

Se generó una función que selecciona el área estándar para cada sitio y calcula sus índices de diversidad funcional, llamada FD_random_subsets. Esta función utiliza internamente otras dos funciones, sample_combs y fun_div_site.
sample_combs: Genera combinaciones aleatorias de transectos para cada sitio
fun_div_site: Calcula la diversidad para los subconjuntos aleatorios de transectos dentro de un sitio
FD_random_subsets: Contiene las dos anteriores

Los herbívoros abarcan el 9% de la comunidad íctica representada en los censos. La ecorregión con mayor riqueza de especies cuenta con 7% de herbívoros del ensamble total de peces (20 de las 289 especies observadas). Isla del Coco es la ecorregión con la mayor densidad de herbívoros, siendo Acanthurus triostegus la especie que aporta más cantidad promedio de individuos, con 680 individuos por km2. Guayaquil, aunque tiene valores bajos en cuanto a riqueza y densidad, tiene la mayor biomasa promedio (Fig. 2). La especie con mayor biomasa promedio es Prionurus laticlavius con 261 g/m2.
