About John

I was born in Cincincinnati, but I have lived briefly in three other states. These states include Colorado, Virginia and Kentucky. My main reason for moving to these areas was for work. I had a political stint in Virginia, which bled into Colorado, then I moved back to the Cincinnati area so that I could attend the University of Cincinnati for graduate school.

John’s Academic Background

• High School: I Graduated from Turpin High School, class of 2013.
• Undergrad: I spent 3 years at Kent State University before transferring back to the University of Cincinnati to finish an Bachelors of Business Administration. I graduated from UC with my Bachelors in May of 2020.
• Graduate School: I am currently completing my third semester at the University of Cincinnati, hoping to be recognized as a Master of Science in Business Analytics by the end of Spring 2022.

Professional Background

• Focal Systems, 07/2020 - Present: I am currently working as an operations manager for Focal Systems. I am the third highest in our command hierarchy. I report directly to the Director of Operations, and communicate weekly with our Executive Team. Focal Systems is a start-up, so we are getting to write the standard operating procedure for any company that wants to even attempt to do what we are accomplishing. We have grown over 32X in the past year, and the year before that we grew 5X. This growth is recognized in both market reach and financial position. I enjoy the work that I do with Focal Systems, no matter how demanding the job can be.

• Past Roles: I held a multitude of titles prior to finding my current role. These titles include: Universal Banker, Window Washer, Contractor, Landscaper, Political Director, and more. I have been taught that hard work will earn a person money from a very young age.

John’s Analytics Experience

• Experience with R: I have been working with R since 2018, so four years now. It is definitely the interface that I am most comfortable with. I started learning R with Udemy courses, studying analytics in my freetime. From there I found that I not only understood the material, but I enjoyed studying it. I began taking analytics courses at the University of Cincinnati. I was very interested in the subject, so I determined that I would likely be willing/able to complete a masters program in analytics while still working full-time.

• Compelte Analytics Experience: I have completed 3 Data Mining courses. All three of these courses centered on predictive modeling and machine learning with R. I completed a Data Visualization course, which provided a general understanding of Tableau, and the best ways to present different types of data. I have also succeeded in completing courses on Statistical Computing, Statistical Modeling, Statistical Methods, Linear Regression, Financial Analysis, and Data Management. I have work experience analyzing data through Microsoft Excel, R Studio, Tableau, Google Data Studio, SAS, SQL, Bash, and Python. I am very excited to continue learning more about this incredibly exciting subject.
