This week I learnt how to data wrangle by working my way through the coding videos for this week.

CHALLENGES

I found this week’s content much more challenging, and almost slightly overwhelming with the amount of content I had to go through! The first 45 minute chunk was not too bad, and I found myself moving through the exercises smoothly.

However, as I made my way through the content, I could tell I was starting to have gaps in my knowledge and understanding of what was going on.

By following Danielle’s videos, I managed to get most of the outcomes that she did. However, I struggled a lot with exercise 7 in replicating the plot she made.

For some reason my Y axis has way more variables than Dani’s did. Not quite sure why this happened yet. When trying exercise 7, all I did was edit the code by creating a new object gender_bck, then editing the rest of the code to relate to this object instead of gender_fwd.

This leads me to my goals for the week!

GOALS

My goal is to figure out how to get the same plot shown in the slides. Although I got some help in slack, unfortunately the suggestions didn’t seem to work for me.

I think, by troubleshooting myself, I can gain a better understanding of R and the processes taught in the videos this week.

Therefore, my goal for the week is to recreate the plot and get a better understanding of each function and processes demonstrated this week in R.

I will note I made less typos this week and following the videos was much easier as I came accross (typically) less errors due to typos compared to last week.

NEXT STEPS

My next steps is to tackle exercise 7 again, but also to get started on the replication project. There have been some recent comments on slack that I’ll try out and hopefully that works.

Hopefully I can fit in enough revision and practice in R to get a good productive start on the project next week!
