This document maps accessibility scores alongside select demographic indicators relating to equity for three southeast Florida counties: Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach.
Accessibility for auto, transit, bike, and walk are sourced from the University of Minnesota Accessibility Observatory (UMNAO). The mapped accessibility scores reflect total jobs from 2017 LEHD employment data. These data were aggregated from Census blocks to Census block groups level by a weighted average based on estimated employees in the block.
The demographic indicators are (1) percent of households with zero vehicles and (2) median household income. These data are sourced from the 2017 5-year ACS, and were acquired at the block group level.
In the maps that follow, all attributes are grouped into 10% quantile breaks; the values themselves are removed for clarity on the map face and easier visual interpretation
For comparisons with auto accessibility, congested and uncongested conditions are considered. “Congested” auto accessibility reflects the accessibility for trips departing at 8am.
\[\\[1in]\]
“Uncongested” auto accessbility reflects the accessibility for trips departing at 1pm.
\[\\[1in]\]
Transit accessibility reflects the average accessibility for trips departing between 7am and 9am.
\[\\[1in]\]
Bike accessibility reflects the accessibility for trips departing at 12pm (UMNAO makes the assumption that accessibility for non-motorized travel is not dependent on departure time).
