The biggest cause of the crash was the Driver’s attention distraction, which led to 342894 crashes, the secondary causes are Failure to Yield Right-of-Way and Following Too Closely, The fourth and fifth causes of accidents are Backing unsafely, and Other vehicles. If some measures can be taken to improve the driver’s distracted and inattentive behavior, the number of accidents will be greatly reduced.
Trends in the number of accidents caused by different causes
The Driver’s attention distraction and failure to Yield Right-of-Way were used to create a temporal trend chart. The purple line is Driver’s attention distraction, the Orange line is failure to Yield Right-of-Way, and in Driver’s attention distraction, you can see that the number of accidents caused by change started to rise slowly from 2013 to 2015, from 2015 to 2018 there was a sharp upward trend, peaking at 57,069 in 2018, and then a slow decline. Since 2019, there has been a sharp decline.
