A total of 1115 Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgeons (FPMRS) were identified using the Part D Opioid Prescriber Summary File: 182 (16%) prescribed 0-10 opioid claims, and 933 (84%) prescribed more than 10 opioid claims to Medicare Part D patients.
Among FPMRS prescribing at least 10 opioid claims in the Part D Prescriber PUF, a total of 121,057 opioid claims were prescribed to 97,045 beneficiaries (Table 1). Each FPMRS prescribed to a mean (SD) of 30.2 (24.9) opioid claims to a mean of 28.1 (21.1) beneficiaries.
Each beneficiary received a mean of 1.1 opioid claims, with a supply lasting a mean of 6.1 days.
Combination hydrocodone-acetaminophen accounted for 60,882 opioid claims (50 %), oxycodone acetaminophen 37,859 opioid claims (31%), followed by tramadol hydrochloride 8,818 opioid claims (7 %), and lastly oxycodone 5,838 opioid claims (5%).
The median opioid prescribing rate for FPMRS in AK, DC, DE and RI is zero, or effectively zero. FPMRS in WV, ID and NV have the highest median prescribing rates, which are above 7.7%. The top 5% of opioid prescribers were located in WV, MI, MS, TN, TX, FL, OH, GA, NC, MO, IN, AZ, NV, CO, CA, NJ, AL and SC.
When broken down by geographical region, FPMRS in (region) prescribed higher numbers of opioid claims per 1000 Medicare beneficiaries, compared with FPMRS in the rest of the United States. Aggregated by region, FPMRS in the (region) prescribed *** opioid claims per 1000 Medicare beneficiaries, compared with *** in the (region), *** in the (region), and *** in the (region).
The median opioid prescription rate for prescriptions covered by Medicare Part D across FPMRS was 4.2% from 2013 to 2017.
