There are constant debates on which chain restaurant has the best burrito. Top contenders include Chipotle, Moe’s, Qdoba, and Currito. I personally think Chipotle is overrated and needs to be humbled. Here, I will be comparing Chiptole and Qdoba by looking at reaction of consumers on Twitter. I have scraped a total of 600 observations to use for analysis.
I have decided to pull 600 total observations from Twitter. 300 of the observations contain the word ‘chipotle’ or the Chiptole Twitter handle. The other 300 observations contain the word ‘qdoba’ or the Qdoba Twitter handle. All the data filters out non-english language tweets and retweets. Both data tables were combined to create a data frame of over 5,000 observations. Sentiment analysis will be used throught the nrc lexicon, which assigns emotional scores to tweets.
The bar chart allows us to see a direct comparison of the sentiments for each restaurant. Immediate take aways are that Chipotle has far more positive tweets. Both are similar in terms of negative tweets. Qdoba has more tweets related to fear, sadness, and anger. These three things are red flags in terms of a restaurant. Overall, I would say Chipotle has better twitter reactions than Qdoba.
## `summarise()` has grouped output by 'sentiment'. You can override using the `.groups` argument.
Here I have created a chart to represent positive and negative words associated with each restaurant. Chipotle top positive words included ‘food’ and ‘eat,’ while their top negative include ‘damn’ and ‘hungry.’ Qdoba’s top positive words are ‘love’ and food’, while the top negative words are ‘bad’ and ‘shit.’ Qdoba negative words seem a lot harsher than Chipotle’s. Also, Chipotle has a great deal more positive tweets than negative tweets. Qdoba is about even in each categories respect.
Using a density graph below, the combined results of the most popular tweeting times for Chipotle and Qdoba is 3pm to 6pm. It can be deduced that this is also around the time that most people go to get their food. Burritos are not a very popular breakfast option, therefore this estimation makes logical sense.
Overall, it seems that Chipotle is the more popular option over Qdoba. This comes at not much of a suprise. Based on the time the most tweets are posted, the two restaurants are clearley bussiest between lunch to dinner time, but not a late night food option such as Taco Bell.
