The National Institutes of Health devised the BMI Calculation as a way to assist in measuring our health and wellness. It is not to be used as the only determining factor but is very useful. It is a comparison between your height and your weight.
A high BMI can indicate a great risk of health complications such as diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure.
The BMI Calculator you will see will assist you in calculating your BMI in imperial or metric.
Each system has a slightly different formula. For the metric (kg & cm):
Weight = 97
Height = 165
metersHeight = Height/100 #changing cm to meters
BMI = Weight / (metersHeight * metersHeight)
BMI
[1] 35.62902
For the imperial (lbs & inches):
Weight = 143
Height = 67
BMI = (Weight * 703) / (Height * Height)
BMI
[1] 22.39452
