Data sources

Data used in this report mainly come from https://ourworldindata.org/coronavirus/country/ethiopia and Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) weekly Bulletin- https://www.ephi.gov.et/index.php/public-health-emergency/novel-corona-virus-update

Sub-national map of cases

These two maps indicate the regional breakdown of the cumulative number of cases in the above line chart. Note that both maps present exactly the same information. The wider distribution gap may reflect differences in transmission or differences in the scale of testing. Therefore, it is difficult to tell which factor played the most in Ethiopian regions.

New daily cases

Panel A in the following chart shows the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases per day, shown as the seven-day rolling average. Due to delays in reporting, the number of cases in a given date do not necessarily reflect the actual number of new cases on that day. It is important to note that the actual number of cases is likely to be much higher than the number of confirmed cases- due to limited testing.

Cumulative cases

Panel B shows the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases since the start of the epidemic. Limited testing means that the number of confirmed cases may not accurately reflect the true number of deaths.

Deaths and tests by region

The first map shows the cumulative number of COVID-19 deaths by Region since the start of the pandemic in the country. The wider distribution gap may reflect differences in transmission or differences in the scale of confirming COVID-19 deaths. The second map shows the cumulative number of tests done per region since the onset of the pandemic in the country

Daily deaths

Panel C shows the number of confirmed COVID-19 deaths per day. The actual number of deaths may be higher than the figures reported in the chart due to limitted testing

Cumulative cases and deaths

Panels B and D show the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases and deaths since the start of the epidemic. Limited testing means that the number of confirmed deaths may not accurately reflect the true number of deaths.
