The app that I have developed allows its users to quickly understand available hospital capacity across the US by simply selecting a type of capacity. The data draws from the ‘Estimated Hospital Utilization’ dataset made available by HHS.

The user can select from a host of options including the following below:

This data could be helpful in a number of instances across the US. Potential applications could include:

• Hospital bed planning
• Illustrating COVID severity
• Understanding health system capacity by state

While this app is still in its early stages, there are a few things that going forward should be addressed with the build.

• Translate the options to plain text versus the column names in the data set
• Link the data source the HSHS API to allow continuous data refreshes
