Explaining fuel consumption mpg
Transmission type am moderates the relationship between weight wt and fuel consumption mpg. Automatic cars am=0 consume more because they weight more, but the automatic transmission is more efficient, as the slope of the curve is less steep than in manual cars with am=1.

We see more cars with eight cylinders than with six cylinders, that was the culture of the time (1974).
Fuel consumption distribution
We see the variability of fuel consumption. The higher mpg, the lower the consumption.
