  1. Positive and negative aspects of this dataset. One thing I like about this dataset is that the crime type is broken down to details and it could give analysts more perspective and more space to work with these data. For example, the each religion has its own group such as anti-catholic, anti-buddhist, anti-hindu, etc. However, if we take a close look at these crimetypes, some of the types don’t have value even though they were broken into details. Therefore, it’s difficult for analysts to use these data if the the number of data gathered is insignificant. Also, like mentioned in the tutorial and the article, not all hate crimes are reported and some might be mis-reported.

  2. List 2 different paths you would like to (hypothetically) study about this dataset. I would like to study about demographic characteristics of offenders and if there’s a relationship between their demographic characteristics and the group of people they offended. I also would like to know why anti-jewish crime spiked in 2012.

  3. Describe 2 things you would do to follow up after seeing these results. One thing could follow up is that if there are some way to improve hate crime data gathering and what can be done to help law enforcement agencies to feel comfortable and accurately report these data.
