- Prepare a one-page outline of your research.
- Prepare a 10-minute position statement (important: anticipate the counter-position).
- Prepare to defend your position based on questions from the other two groups.

Break-out to discuss opening statements and strategize rebuttals. Time can allow for additional research. Deposit a draft of your opening statement on Sakai at the end of class today.
Format for the debate next time
Groups designate a recorder of questions for preparation of rebuttals. The recorder will take notes needed for the rebuttal statement.
Opening statements: The two sides will present opening statements, 10 min each. Following each statement, members of other groups can ask clarifying questions.
Adjourn to groups to prepare challenges (cross-examination).

Prepare rebuttals: Adjourn to prepare rebuttals to challenges.
Present rebuttals and follow-up discussion: Presentation can be done by several members of the group. Follow-up questions and discussion on the merits of both sides of the case.
Final minutes in group to organize rebuttal statements into main document to turn in next class.

Determined by participation in all aspects of the debate, including questions and discussion.
