We present in this document a comparison between density-based approach and the new proposed approach based on speed-category for road categroisation

Density-based approach

- Rural if NAVTEQ urban flag is set to 0
- Suburban if the urban flag is set to 1, but the road density variable rd1000 is <= 180
- Urban if the urban flag is set to 1, and the road density variable rd1000 is > 180

Speed-category-based approach

- Rural if NAVTEQ urban flag is set to 0, and the speed-category is between 1 and 5
- Suburban if the urban flag is set to 0, and the speed-category is between 6 and 8, or if the urban flag is set to 1, and the speed-category is between 1 and 5
- Urban if the urban flag is set to 1, and the speed-category is between 6 and 8
