My app introduction:

  • Body mass index (BMI) is a value derived from the mass (weight) and height of a person.

  • The BMI is defined as the body mass divided by the square of the body height, and is universally expressed in units of kg/m2, resulting from mass in kilograms and height in metres.

  • The BMI is a convenient rule of thumb used to broadly categorize a person as underweight, normal weight, overweight, or obese based on tissue mass (muscle, fat, and bone) and height.

The categories are:

< 18: underweight

18-25: normal BMI

25-30: overweight

30-35: obese

35+: morbidly obese
