Introduction

Goal: Explore data scientists jobs extracted from Glassdoor

Dataset:

  • It was from one of the dataset found in Kaggle.

  • Consists of 3,909 rows and 17 columns with features that include Job Title, Salary Estimate, Location, Company Rating, Job Description, etc.

  • Data Inclusions and Exclusions

    • Excluded 21 records with salary estimate represented “per hour”.
    • Included only job titles which contain any of the following keywords: Data Scientist, Data Analyst, Data Engineer, Data Modeler, Business Intelligence Analyst, Machine Learning Engineer, Research Scientist, and Data Architect.

  • Final data count used in the analysis was 2,808.

Assumption: Job levels were all set to Junior if it is not explicitly specified as Senior, Lead, and Principal.

Salary by Role

  • Some of the job titles have no information on the salary.
  • Overall Annual Salary Range: $50,000 - $225,000 across all job levels and titles.
  • Mean Midpoint: $75,000 - $130,000 across all job levels and titles.
  • Interestingly, Junior roles are paid higher on average compared to other levels.

Salary by Company

  • Facebook pays junior data science roles the highest compared to all other companies followed by Apple.
  • Kforce only pays $95,000, annually.
  • Only 14 companies reportedly paid junior data science related roles higher than $100,000 annually.

  • Apple pays an average of $160,000, annually for senior data science related jobs followed by CyberCoders with $125,000 annually.
  • Diverse Lynx, Battelle, and JP Morgan pays less than $100,000 annually.
  • Only 5 companies pay more than $100,000 for senior data science related roles.

Salary by Industry

  • Restricted to industries with at least 100 individuals arrange in increasing n. (n is population size)
  • Majority (60% - 80%) are junior data science related jobs across all the 7 industries.
  • IT Services industry seem to have provided Glassdoor info related to data science jobs.

Salary by Ownership Type

  • Private companies top the list.
  • There are also companies with “Unknown” and “Not Specified” ownerships.

Salary by State

  • The data was only represented by 10 States.
  • California and Arizona in the east; Texas and Florida in the south; Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, and Delaware in the west.
  • Florida and Illinois have lower midpoint annual salary estimates for junior data science jobs compared to the rest of the coloured States.

  • New York pays the highest for senior data science roles compared to the other coloured States.
