Map of USGS Stream Gage Locations


This interactive map shows the locations of US Geological Survey stream gages throughout the country.

  • Interactive panning/zooming
  • Change basemaps by selecting radio buttons on the right
  • Toggle layers by checking/unchecking boxes on the right
    • USGS Gages shows gages throughout the US
      • When zoomed out, points are clustered by region
      • Point clusters spread when selected or when zooming in
      • Selecting individual points displays gage information and clicking on the gage name will open a browser link to the USGS site for the selected gage
    • Hydrography shows additional details on streams and lakes
    • US States shows state and territory boundaries
    • Heatmap shows density of gages by region
  • Search features
    • Search box (click on magnifying glass icon on the right to expand) allows searching using Open Street Maps
    • Click on the map (avoid clicking on a USGS gage) to display Open Street Map location name on the top right
  • Measure tool (top right) allows for measurements of distance, perimeter, and area
  • Reset View button (left) returns map to default zoom level

Stream Flow Time Series Plot


Interactive hydrograph for the Rio Grande River at Embundo, NM (the oldest USGS stream gage) using data beginning on October 1, 1913.

  • Blue line represents observed mean daily discharge
  • Dotted black line represents mean discharge for a given day of the water year across the entire period of record. For example, the value for October 1 represents the mean discharge of all October 1 values. This hydrograph shows how current conditions (blue line) differs from “mean” conditions on a given day.
  • Zoom across both horizontal and vertical axes by single-clicking and dragging with mouse
    • Date selector at bottom allows date range to be expanded/contracted and can be slid to display different time periods
  • Moving the mouse horizontally along the plot displays discharge values in the legend at the top right
  • Double-click on the plot area to reset zoom to display all data

Water Year Type Plot

Census Data

2010 Census Map


This interactive map includes data from the 2010 US Census. Click on a state to display information on population size, median age, area in square miles, and population density in number of people per square mile. Zoom into an area using the “+” and “-” buttons at the top left or by using the mousewheel. Colors represent population size or density, which can be selected at the top right.

2010 Census Table


This interactive table displays data from the 2010 US Census and 2016 Presidential Election Results. Columns can be filtered by inputting search terms within the search fields. The data can be sorted numerically or alphabetically depending on which column is sorted. Individual cells can be edited by double-clicking the cell and editing values. Note: editing of tables can be disabled via script prior to rendering.

2010 Census Plot


This interactive plot displays population size data from the 2010 US Census by gender. Hover over each bar to provide tooltip information on population size for each state. Clicking once on the a gender in the legend at the top right will hide the gender from the plot.
