The University of Liberia customarily administers entrance and placement exams as part of the vetting process of admission. The test is intended to help determine selection of those who are at least capable of doing college course work without further high school preparation.
This year 2020 FIRST ENTRANCE AND PLACEMENT EXAMINATION RESULTS for the Undergraduate Colleges, Straz Sinje, and the College of General Studies fall into six (6) categories:
REGULAR PASS
PROVISIONAL PASS
UNSUCCESSFUL
ABSENT
NOT ALLOWED TO SIT THE EXAMS and
DISQUALIFIED FOR CHEATING.
CUT-OFF POINTS APPLIED BY THE TESTING COMMITTEE
REGULAR PASS candidates are those who scored at least 50% in Mathematics and at least 50% in English. REGULAR PASS candidates may register for up to 18 credit hours during their first semester in a college of the University of Liberia.
PROVISIONAL PASS candidates are those who scored less than 50% in Mathematics or less than 50% in English but obtained an average score of at least 50% when their mathematics and English scores are combined. PROVISIONAL PASS candidates may register for up to 12 or 13 credit-hours during their first semester in a college of the University of Liberia. The credit hours should include Freshman Mathematics and Freshman English.
UNSUCCESSFUL candidates are those who have an average score of less than 50% when their mathematics and English scores are combined. UNSUCCESSFUL candidates must register again for another UL entrance examination and obtain a pass mark/grade in that exam before they can gain entry to the University of Liberia.
ABSENT: Candidates who registered for the University of Liberia entrance but did not turn out for the Entrance Examination. Candidates that were absent must register again for another UL entrance examination and obtain a pass mark/grade in that exam before they can gain entry to the University of Liberia.
NOT ALLOWED TO SIT THE EXAMS : Those Candidates that registered with fake Bank Deposit Slips but were later discovered by the BFO team during the Bank Deposit Slips verification
DISQUALIFIED FOR CHEATING: Candidates that were caught in Exams malpratices.
DEFINITIONS OF KEY TERMS
COMPANY SCHOOLS : Those schools that are built and run by companies. The children of the company’s employees attend these schools.
COMMUNITY SCHOOLS: Those schools that are established or built through communiy initiative and/ or County Development Projects. These schools will later transition to public schools.
PRIVATE SCHOOLS : Those schools that are run or established by indiviuals.
FAITH-BASED SCHOOLS: Those schools that are run or established by religious institutions.
PUBLIC SCHOOLS : Government owned schools
BFO: Business and Finance Office
GS : Graduate Schools
COGS : College of General Studies
The Undergraduate Programs
A total of twelve thousand, five hundred seventy-six (12,576) candidates registered for the entrance for Undergraduate Colleges. Of this number, only eleven thousand, four hundred thirty-two (11,432 or 90.90%) candidates wrote the Exams while one thousand, one hundred ten (1,110) candidates were absent. Three (3) candidates were disqualified for Examination malpractices. Thirty-one (31) candidates were disallowed to sit the Exams due to fake Bank deposit slips.
Of the total eleven thousand, four hundred thirty-two (11,432 or 90.90%) candidates who wrote the Exams, three thousand, two hundred eighty-seven (3,287 or 28.75%) candidatesmade Regular Pass, four hundred forty-nine (449 or 3.93%) candidates passed Provisionally while six thousand, eight hundred fifty-two (7,696 or 67.32% ) candidates were unsuccessful.
This also means that three thousand, seven hundred thirty-six (3,736 or 32.68%) candidates either made a Regular Pass or a Provisional Pass for the Undergraduate Programs.
Of the total eleven thousand, four hundred thirty-two (11,432 or 90.90%) candidates who wrote the Exams, six thousand, seven hundred twenty (6,720 or 58.78%) of them are males while four thousand, seven hundred twelve (4,712 or 41.22% ) are females;
Of the eleven thousand, four hundred thirty-two (11,432 or 90.90%) candidates who wrote the Exams, three thousand, seven hundred thirty-six (3,736 or 32.68%) candidates either made a Regular Pass or a Provisional Pass for the Undergraduate Programs. Two thousand, one hundred thirty-four (2,134 or 57.12%) of the successful candidates are males while one thousand, six hundred two (1,602 or 42.88%) of the candiadtes are females;
Only 603 or 16.14% of the candidates that passed the Entrance Exams from the Undergraduate Colleges are from Public Schools, 1,503 or 40.23% are from the Private Schools, 1,532 or 41.01% are from the Faith-Based Scholls, 62 or 1.66% are from the Company Schools while 36 or 0.96% are from the Community Schools;
2,976 or 79.66% of the candidates that passed the Entrance Exams are High School Graduates while the rest are either Current 12th Graders(697 or 18.66%) or students from Other Universities(63 or 1.69%);
The College of General Studies
The total of one hundred sixty-six(166) candidates registered for the College of General Studies Entrance Exams. Thirty-five (35 or 21.08%) candiates were absent for the Exams.
Of the one hundred thirty-one (131) candidates that wrote the College of General Studies Entrance Exams, (38 or 29.01%) candidates made a Regular Pass while fifty-three (53 or 40.46%) made a Provisional Pass. Forty (40 or 30.53%) candidates were UNSUCCESSFUL.
The Straz Sinje Technical and Vocational College
The total of eighty-three (83) candidates registered for the Straz Sinje Technical and Vocational College Entrance Exams. Nineteen (19 or 22.89%) candiates were absent.
Of the sixty-four (64) candidates that wrote the Straz Sinje Technical and Vocational College Entrance Exams, (39 or 60.94%) candidates made a Regular Pass while fifty-three (53 or 40.46%) made a Provisional Pass. Ten (10 or 15.62%) candidates were UNSUCCESSFUL.
Which Category of School Performed Better from the Undergraduate Program?
36 out of 123 Community Schools’ Candidates or 29.27% made a pass;
62 out of 203 Company Schools’ Candidates or 30.54% made a pass;
1,532 out of 4,495 Faith-Based Schools’ Candidates or 34.08% made a pass;
1,503 out of 4,624 Private Schools’ Candidates or 32.50% made a pass;
603 out of 1,987 Public Schools’ Candidates or 30.35% made a pass;
From the above analysis, it is obvious that the Faith-Based Schools performed better, with 34.08% of their candidates who wrote the Entrance Exams making a pass;
The Graduate and Professional Schools
The Graduate School
SCALE USED FOR THE GRADUATE SCHOOL
SUCCESSFUL PASS: Candidates whose average score is at least 40%.
UNSUCCESSFUL PASS: Candidates whose average score is less than 40%.
The total of five hundred thirty-eight(538) candidates registered for the Graduate School Entrance Exams. Of this number, seventy-two (72) candiates were absent.
Of the four hundred sixty-six(466) candidates that wrote the Graduate School Entrance Exams, three hundred nineteen (319 or 68.45%) candidates were SUCCESSFUL while one hundred forty-seven hundred nine (147 or 31.55% ) were UNSUCCESSFUL.
The Medical School
SCALE USED FOR THE MEDICAL SCHOOL CANDIDATES
SUCCESSFUL PASS: Candidate’s Science and English Scores are both at least 70%;
UNSUCCESSFUL PASS: Either the candidate’s Science score or the English score is less than 70%;
The total of three hundred forty (340) candidates registered for the Medical School Entrance Exams; Of this number, only nine (9 or 2.65) candidate were absent.
Of the total three hundred thirty-one (331) candidates that wrote the Medical School Aptitude Test, fifty-two (52 or 15.70%) candidates made a pass while two hundred seventy-nine (279 or 84.29%) candidates were UNSUCCESSFUL.
The School of Pharmacy
SCALE USED BY SCHOOL OF PHARMACY
SUCCESSFUL PASS: Candidates whose average score is at least 50%.
UNSUCCESSFUL PASS: Candidates whose average score is less than 50%.
The total of fifty-one(51) candidates registered for the School of Pharmacy Aptitude Test. All the fifty-one (51) candiates were absent.
Of the fifty-one(51) candidates that wrote the School of Pharmacy Aptitude Test. (38 or 74.51%) candidates were SUCCESSFUL while thirteen (13 or 25.49% ) were UNSUCCESSFUL.

The Second Entrance Exams
The Second Entrance Exams 2020 for the Undergraduate Colleges, the College of General Studies, STRAZ Sinje Technical and Vocational School along with the Apitude Test for the Graduate Schools, the School of Pharmacy and the Law School will be administered on ** Saturday December 5, 2020**.
The registration for these Exams will begin on Monday November 9, 2020 and will end on Thursday, November 26, 2020.
Worshop for the Exams will be on Wednesday, December 2, 2020;
The Workshop will begin on Fenndall Campus at 11:00 am and will later begin at 2pm on the Capitol Campus;
December 3, 2020: POD prepares the classrooms for the candidates;
December 4, 2020: CTE Staff will inspect POD arrangemen;
December 5, 2020: ENTRANCE DAY
Examination Time table for December 5, 2020
Preparation for the first Test(Subject) will start at 8:45:00am and will end at 9 : 59 am
EVERY SUBJECT WILL RUN FOR 2-HOURS;
The first subject will start at 10am and will end at 12 noon;
30 minutes break will be given after the first test;
Recess will last from 12:01pm to 12:31pm
Preparation for the second and last Test will start at 12: 32pm and will end at 12 : 59 pm
The last test will start at 1:00 pm and will end at 3pm
3:01 pm to 3: 59 pm: Collection and reporting of exam materials by Examiners
4:00 pm to 5:30 pm, Collection of allowances from the Testing Center staff by Supervisors, Examiners, Proctors, securities, Jenitors, etc
