Background

- Fans of Big Ten Football are particularly passionate about their teams
- Prior to a matchup with another team, fans may like a way to easily compare certain recent historical statistics trends for their team and their opponent. This could allow them to:
- Accurately talk trash with their friends
- Make educated friendly wagers with fans of opposing teams
- Understand why their team is experiencing success (or lack thereof), as compared to their opponent

- A fan could look use a simple code chunk to get a table like the one shown on the right (which would probably be not at all helpful!)

The User Input

  • OR…
  • A User could make use of a simple, web-based app!
  • A relatively simple bit of code, written in the R language using the RShiny server, and using a database gleaned from www.teamrankings.com serves as the bedrock of this simple application.

NOTE: There will be a demonstration of the App later on.

  • The User is given 4 simple intuitive commands:
    • Select two teams
    • Select one statistic for comparison
    • Submit the input!

The Output

  • The app takes the information given and generates an interactive plot, using Plotly
  • The user can zoom in on a specific period of time
  • The user can easily start over and have a look at other statistics and other teams very quickly
