There are times when we are given an SPSS data file that we would like to use in R. Below are images of the steps you will take to do this.

You will go to the menu, press “file” and press “save as”.

When you are saving this file, change the extension to “.csv”. Press save.

You can see in your folder you now have a duplicate of your SPSS file but now in CSV format.

As you know, it is easier to work with CSVs in R than SPSS data files in SPSS. There is a function to read in SPSS files into R but this function does not always preserve data formatting.
