  • Carolyn Sawyeris the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Tom Sawyer Company (TSC). She has served as its President and set the strategic direction for this fast growing Communications firm since its inception in 1996. TSC’s core competency is Communication Contact, which includes full service Call Center Operations, Strategic Instructional Training and Public Outreach. This talented communicator has parlayed her mastery of mass media into creating a firm with capital sales exceeding the multi-million mark. Her cutting-edge business practices have garnered attention from USA Today (March 2004), where she was cited for optimizing Wi-Fi communications access to augment her business capabilities years before it became a mainstream operational tool. Following TSC’s award-winning unveiling of South Carolina’s historic African American History Monument on the Statehouse grounds, former US Senator Fritz Hollings nominated Sawyer to serve on national Commission commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education, et al. As the Marketing Communications Chairwoman, Sawyer helped shape the Commission’s worldwide publicity efforts, highlighting the landmark Supreme Court decision that ended school segregation in America. Ms. Sawyer was a founding member of the Boston chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women and previously served on the Board for the National Association of Blacks in Journalism. Ms. Sawyer is a graduate of Washington State University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications. A former network correspondent and anchor for ABC News, LIFETIME Television Network, and NBC News, Sawyer has authored an inspirational guidebook for entrepreneurs Forget the Glass Slipper: Build Your Own Castle – 10 Traits of a Million Dollar Business and co-authored ABC’s of Media. She regularly contributes guest columns on topics of communications and business.

  • Dr. Charmain Jackman, Ph.D. is a Harvard-trained, licensed psychologist with over 23 years in the mental health field. Dr. Jackman is the founder + CEO of InnoPsych, Inc., an organization on a mission to change the face of therapy and to promote wellness & healing for people of color. InnoPsych, Inc., is an award-winning organization focused on increasing access to therapy through its online therapist of color directory and emotional wellness programming. As a change-maker, Dr. Jackman is passionate about the intersection of psychology, mental health, and diversity, equity, and inclusion and has created social impact initiatives that support community members and mental health professionals. She has used her expertise to shape how organizations respond to and support their employees during the COVID-19 and racial violence crises. Dr. Jackman is also the recipient of the 2020 American Psychological Association’s PLC Diversity Award. Dr. Jackman LOVES talking about mental health and is a national spokesperson for mental health. She has also and featured in both print and TV media outlets locally and nationally.

  • Uiric Johnson Ulric Johnson is an educator, licensed mental health clinician, youth and family advocate and community organizer. He is a Board Certified Human Service Provider, Certified Addiction Specialist, Certified Forensic Counselor, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Licensed Rehabilitation Counselor, Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. He refers to himself as an African Trin-Bagonian, because he is originally from Trinidad and Tobago. He presently lives in Dorchester.

  • Courtney Grey Courtney Grey is the Director of Disaster Behavioral Health (DBH) in the Office of Public Health Preparedness, and is responsible for designing trainings, workshops, seminars, tabletops and live exercises that instill the field-tested skills necessary to address the biological, psychological, and social impacts of large-scale, potentially traumatic events. This includes workforce protection and self-care measures for deployed resources. Mr. Grey has coordinated countless local and national DBH deployments for singleton incidents of homicide, suicide, fires, etc., as well as natural and man-made disasters such as Hurricane Katrina and the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. His training content includes best practices and lessons learned from deployments in school, community, and institutional settings. He has been with BPHC for over 10 years. Mr. Grey is a Trainer of Trainers for Psychological First Aid (PFA), developed by the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) under the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA).

  • Carl Donaldson Seasoned, well organized Martial Arts Instructor and Personal Trainer with over 30 years of experience teaching various forms of martial arts and assisting in weight management. Certified in Youth Fitness, Senior Fitness, Sports and Fitness Nutrition, Sports and Exercise Rehabilitation and Strength and Conditioning. Trained as a therapeutic Levels 1 and 2 Gi Gong Instructor.

  • Earl Hernandez An assertive and proactive individual, with great potential and foresight both Operational and Management in my area of specialization in the field of Pre-Hospital Care, Disaster and Emergency Management, Disaster Medicine. A humanitarian representing the Trinidad and Tobago Red Cross Society both locally, regionally, internationally and globally as their Director of Disaster Management providing assistance in the field to the most vulnerable in need.

  • T’Shango MblishashakaProfessor Mbilishaka is an award-winning teacher who has taught in inner-city communities in Boston and Washington D.C. for 15 years. He has been an administrator and taught grades pre-K to college. He never liked school so he decided to do everything to make school more interesting and exciting for students. Through hands-on-interactive lessons, field trips, and bringing in guest presenters, Mbilishaka is giving his students a real-world education. T’Shango has developed multiple community programs that all include learning self-defense. He began martial arts at the age of 12 but really excelled in wrestling in high school. He enjoys studying the history of ancient African Warriors, War Empires in Africa, traditional African fighting styles and the great Martial Artists of the ’60s and ’70s and many more.

  • Ed Koban Ed has dedicated his adult life to working with at risk youth, Native & non-Native, on & off reservations, In schools and organizations around the USA & Canada, working to help repair the effects of intergenerational trauma at the root of many of the issues faced by the indigenous people of the Americas. Ed hold a MA in Licensed Mental Health Counseling, and BS is Sociology, and incorporates his musical ability with his passion for the environment and preparing the next generations to deal with the ecological problems their forefathers have created. Ed Koban is a guitarist and Native American Flutist, from Niagara Falls, NY. He has performed with several respected artists including, Grammy Winners Joanne Shenandoah, and Janice Marie of Taste of Honey, Felipe Rose of the Village People Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee: Nokie Edwards of the Ventures, as well as, Pura Fe, Gabriel Ayala, Tonemah, Star Nayea, Cody Blackbird, Leanne Shenandoah, Jim Boyd, Keith Secola, Dylan Jenet Collins, and others. He has shared the bill with groups such as: Foghat, Three Dog Night, Blackfoot, Molly Hatchet, Indigenous, Rusted Root, and has performed nationwide with artists at venues like the Kennedy Center and the 2002 Winter Olympics. Ed currently is the Assistant Musical Director and House Band Coordinator for the yearly Native American Music Awards, & host a monthly Podcast for the Native American Music Association. Ed’s 2015 release “How to Fly” garnered him a Flutist of the Year nomination at the 2016 Native American Music Awards.

  • Nancy B. Smith Program Manager for Community Resilience and Engagement at Office of Public Health Preparedness (OPHP), Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) located in Boston, Massachusetts. Ms. Smith is responsible for developing community relationships in support of emergency preparedness and community resilience in close coordination with other Public Health Departments and Boston Emergency Management Services (BEMS). Nancy earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Northeastern University and has a Certificate in Maternal Child Health from the Boston University School of Public Health. Nancy completed Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health “Community Health Leaders” Program. Nancy has worked in different departments of the Boston Public Health Commission, Substance Abuse Bureau, Homeless Commission, and the Child Adolescence and Family Health Bureau. Co-Developed “Healthy Relationships” curriculum” under the 3-city Community Healthy Marriage Initiative (CHMI) site report that includes Boston on the ACF website. http://www.acf.hhs.gov/news/press/2008/hmi_three_cities.html Nancy is currently working on several special programming exploring (rising tides and heat island) Climate Change Adaption for the City of Boston. Ms. Smith is lifetime member of Black Emergency Managers Association International, and member of Team Rubicon.
