In December 2019, COVID-19 coronavirus was first identified in the Wuhan region of China. By March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) categorized the COVID-19 outbreak as a pandemic. A lot has happened in the months in between with major outbreaks in Iran, France, and Italy.

We know that COVID-19 spreads through respiratory droplets, such as through coughing, sneezing, or speaking. We will see in this article how this virus spread so rapidly all over the world by comparing with origin China.

The table below shows the cumulative confirmed cases of COVID-19 worldwide by date. Just reading numbers in a table makes it hard to get a sense of the scale and growth of the outbreak.

Let’s draw a line plot to visualize the confirmed cases worldwide.

Now let’s compare China, which is the origin of the virus, with rest of the world. We will draw a cumulative frequency polygon to see the trend.

We used logarithmic scale on y-axis to get better understanding of the exponential growth of the rest of the world. NB.1e+1=10

After February 15,2020,the confirmed cases in China started to decrease because of proper lockdown and maintaining social distancing.

Fortunately not all countries are being affected by COVID-19 equally, and it would be helpful to know where in the world the problems are greatest. Let’s find the countries outside of China with the most confirmed cases in our dataset.

*We see linear growth for countris like Italy,France,Spain & UK but exponential growth for countries like USA and Brazil.

So far we’ve seen the rest of the world,we may wonder why we are not talking about our motherland.Let’s talk about covid-19 situation of Bangladesh.

Bangladesh got its first confirmed case of coronavirus in March 8,2020.After one month of after case, the virus started to spread rapidly. With more confirmed cases, number of death per day increased.

We see the trend of increasing confirmed cases in Bangladesh follows exponential growth method.Which is really an alarming news for our country.

Don’t go outside without protection.Try to stay home as much as possible. Thanks for reading.
