Determining the most feasible location to construct a hospital in Adentan Municipality

Problem Statement

COVID-19 has exposed the need to strengthen the health systems of the World. This ties in perfectly with the World Health Organization’s 2030 Universal Health Coverage Agenda. Strengthening Health systems is vital to achieve the universal health coverage agenda.

The President of Ghana has acknowledged this vital need and pledged to construct hospitals in 88 districts out of Ghana’s total 260 districts without district hospitals.

District or Municipal Hospitals are a crucial link in the chain of health service delivery in Ghana.

Goal

The goal of this study is provide an insight to health services delivery in the Adentan Municipality of the districts without a district hospital in Ghana and conduct a spatial analysis to determine a feasible location for the Municipal Hospital.

General objectives

*Conduct spatial analysis to determine the most feasible location (GPS) to construct a hospital in Adentan Municipality.

Specific objectives

*Conduct a spatial analysis to determine criteria that determine a good location for the Adentan Municipal hospital, access to good water supply, not in a flood prone area, centrally located in the community.
*To evaluate the hierarchy and flow of health service delivery in Adentan Municipality according to the Ghana Health Service standard.

From Community-based Health Planning ad Services (CHPS) compounds, to Health Centers, to PolyClinics, to Municipal Hospitals to Tertiary Health Facilities and to Quaternary Health Facilities.

*Ascertain the current number of private and public health facilities, hospital beds, doctors, nurses and allied health professionals per thousand population in currently in the Adentan Municipality.
*Create a map of the private and public health facilities in Adentan Municipality.

*Conduct suitability, allocation, acceptability analysis to determine the most feasible location for the Adentan Municipal Hospital.


*Use information about the population density of the Adentan Municipality to make recommendations about how to increase the number of hospital beds, doctors and nurses per thousand population in Adentan Municipality.


*From this analysis, recommendations would be made to the Ministry of health and the Ministry of Works and Housing of Ghana about the most feasible location for the construction of a Municipal Hospital in Adenta.
