Interest in COVID-19, as measured by Google search trends for ‘corovirus’, peaked on March 15 and has been on a downward trend since. In the figure below, numbers represent search interest relative to the highest point on the chart for the given region and time. A value of 100 is the peak popularity for the term. A value of 50 means that the term is half as popular. A score of 0 means there was not enough data for this term.

Unemployment search trends

US Google search trends for ‘unemployment benefits’ shows that searches are popular today than at the peak of the 2008 Global Financial Crisis. Interestingly, searches peak on Mondays and are lowest on Saturdays - this was true even before the COVID crisis. The downward trend is clear, however.

Fear of flights

Investors have steered clear of airline stocks.
