This year, the IMCI-sponsored Carpentries program at the University of Idaho has lead to the training of eight Carpentries instructors, the participation of 12 helpers, and the instruction of 123 students. These students are diverse in career level and expertise (see figures below) and experienced an overwhelmingly positive experience at IMCI Carpentries workshops. It is exciting that UI instructors have started to branch out. In June, our instructors taught workshops with instructors from across Idaho at a computational bootcamp held in collaboration by CAES and C3 (https://caesenergy.org/remote-summer-boot-camp/).
Figure 1: Participation across all UI workshops. In total, 18 participants registered for more than one workshop.
Figure 2: Participants were diverse in career stage.
Figure 3: Attendees are from diverse fields of study.
Figure 4: Overall reviews of the IMCI Carpentries workshops were very positive. The most appreciated skill learned was gained confidence in being able to learn and troubleshoot coding problems on their own.
