Death by suicide is an extremely complex issue that causes pain to hundreds of thousands of people every year around the world. Globally 800,000 people die from suicide every year – that’s twice the number from homicide. Research indicates that mental illnesses such as depression, psychosis and substance use are associated with anincreased risk of suicide. Loneliness seems to become more salient as a risk factor for suicide.
