About the App

AAF is an fitness app that calculates daily energy expenditure, BMI, heart rate and other fitness related body indexes. It requires user input of height, weight, age, gender and activity level, and can report up to 8 parameters based on these inputs.

The first two panels of this three-panel app are bascially watered down version of the health calculators found at Health 101, where you can also find more information on the formulas used for calculating each parameter. Additional feature called weight planner can be found in the third panel, where a animated simulation of 60 day weight loss based on calories deficit can be generated using plotly. All code for this shiny app can be found at https://github.com/wenwen829/AAF

Daily Energy Expenditure

The daily energy expenditure is calculated using the Harris Benedict Equation shown above.Note that all units for user input and output from the server are in metric system.

Body Metrix

This gadget estimates 9 body parameters based on user input in the left panel. After typing in all data asked for in left panel, click the generate report button to see report on the right. All equations used for generating report can be found here.
