We can higlight a column with colum_spec, or a row with row_spec. I have tuned the first column with column_spec(1, bold=T, border_right = T) and the fifth with column_spec(5, bold=T, background = "#FF3333", color = "white").

Here is a sample of mtcars with no configuration. Note that we can order the table by any column just clicking on the arrows next to column name.
