Questions related to Percentages

Before you try to solve the following numerical s, let us try to understand what is percentage actually means. Percent is made of two different words per + cent meaning that per 100.

For example if you got the marks 85 in Mathematics out of 100 that means you secured 80% in Mathematics.

Let us try some more examples: Suppose in a class test you got 15 out of 20, then what % did you secure? can you compute?

you got marks 15 out of 20

or, you got marks \((\frac{15}{20})\) out of 1

\(\therefore\) you got marks\((\frac{15}{20}*100)\) out of 100

Hence, you secured 75 % in the class test.

In general practice you can use the following formula to compute the percentage:

\(\%\ of\ a\ particular\ object = \frac{No.\ of\ particular\ object}{Total\ no.\ of\ objects}\)

Exercises for practice:

1. There are 200 balls in a container, out of which 50 are red, 60 are green, 30 are blue and rest are orange colored. Find the % of each colored balls.

2. Mr “A” lends some money to Mr. “B” at the rate of 10 % per annum. After 10 years Mr. “B” repay to Mr. “A” a sum of $ 12,000. Can you find how much money did “A” lend to Mr “B”

3. There are 40 students in a classroom, out of which 25 are girls. Find the percentage of boy students.
